The Farm Butchery are a family run butchers based in the beautiful village of Codicote in Hertfordshire. They asked me to take some food photography of their homemade pies for their seasonal social media and marketing.
The Farm Butchery pride themselves on making their pies from scratch, using local ingredients from Hertfordshire suppliers. They needed some generic stock photos that they could use throughout the year for social media and their website, and then some seasonal pictures of their pies to entice customers for cosy winter dinners.
Hertfordshire small businesses have been hit really hard this year. Since lockdown has ended there is a real need to promote and encourage people to support and shop locally, as businesses try to make up for a year no one could have predicted.
PLANNING FOR THE SHOOT
I spent time with Adrienne at The Farm Butchery planning and understanding what they wanted to from their photos. We broke the photos down into two shoots, one where I visited the shop and photographed Adrienne making her pies from scratch. And the second shoot I photographed the end products from my home studio.
I can’t even begin to tell you how good my kitchen smelt as the pies came out of the oven. Neither
can I begin to tell you how stressful it is getting a pie out of its foil tray without breaking it.
When I last photographed food for a local Hertfordshire pub, the food was already plated, so getting it to the plate was a task I hadn’t quite appreciated until this shoot.
My love of photographing food is almost as much as my love of eating it. But for me the chance to photograph and help another local Hertfordshire business promote themselves was fantastic. It was great to see so many of the photos used on social media and for their website.
Now go get one of those pies!
